  • Biographical Presentation

    B. studierte nach humanistischer Vorbildung in Berlin Medizin (1868 approbiert), begab sich zur weiteren Ausbildung nach Wien, war Assistent bei R. Wilms und bei seinem Vater im Krankenhaus Bethanien (1869–72) und gründete dann eine eigene Praxis in Berlin. 1903 erhielt er den Titel eines Professors. – Die durch R. Virchow in Berlin ins Leben gerufene Anthropologische Gesellschaft beeinflußte auch ihn in seinen anthropologischen Studien, so in der Arbeit über Menschenschwänze. Auf →Virchows Empfehlung gab er das seinerzeit viel beachtete Werk von H. Ploß, „Das Weib in der Natur- und Völkerkunde“, neu bearbeitet heraus.
