Biographical Presentation
Begga, wahrscheinlich die ältere Tochter des im J. 639 gestorbenen fränkischen Majordomus Pippin v. Landen. Sie war mit Ansegisil, dem Sohne Bischof Arnulfs von Metz vermählt, ein Bündniß, das die Zukunft des karolingischen Hauses begründet hat. Nach dem Tode ihres Gemahls (im J. 692) stiftete sie das Kloster Andane im Sprengel von Lüttich und dotirte es mit sieben Kirchen, wonach dasselbe auch „ad septem ecclesias“ genannt wurde. Sie starb im J. 694. Die Verbindung, in die man später ihren Namen mit den Beguinen gebracht hat, ist als eine willkürliche Fiction zu verwerfen. — H. E.
